McGonagall would win in a duel. She beat severus snape in a duel and even dueled voldemort himself. She is the transfiguration queen and is second only to dumbledore. She also survived four stunning spells to the chest. She is also an animagus which only very powerful wizards/witches can become.
Who said that McGonagall won the duel in book 7? They other teacher was helping her. I belive that - perhaps McGonagall would win if it is speaking a matter of a transfiguration duel. But of course, Severus Snape is very skilled in dueling and spells, and actually transfiguration too, so I would belive that Severus Snape are just as powerful as Minerva McGonagall.
@Simen, i disagree, mcgonagall was stronger, im sure she wanted to duel without the others coming as much as snape did. all that was done was flitwick cast a spell at snape that didnt hit. mcgonagall had a counter for everything that snape did and then some. no doubt in my mind if mcgonagall could take snape or bellatrix.
Let's face it McGonagall won, i'm a huge fan of snape and mcgonagall, but we have to admit that McGonagall won. Snape had to take cover of McGonagall's flying daggers and at that time the other teachers weren't even there. The other teachers didnt even help McGonagall. All flitwick did was cast a spell that didnt even hit snape.Yes Severus was indeed a very powerful wizard, but McGonagall has much more experience than Snape. I think they are both indeed very powerful, but experience pays off. Whoever said that Snape was good at transfiguration? The ones that were extremely skilled at transfiguration were Dumbledore and McGonagall. If its true that Snape was more powerful than McGonagall then why didn't Dumbledore put him as his Deputy over McGonagall? I have no doubt whatsoever that McGonagall would beat Severus or Bellatrix in a duel.
